1st Annual Cheezic Tang Soo Do World Championship: Results |

The annual Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation awards banquet will be be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Aqua-Turf Club in Plantsville, Connecticut at 12:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “The Cheezic Tang Soo Do Ladder of Success” celebrating the journey from beginner to Master Belt in our Federation. We will enjoy demonstrations from students from all levels of our ladder of success.
Attendance is limited to 700 people. The pre-registered cost is $40 per person and will include a family style dinner. The cost at the door is $50 per person. All pre-registrations must be received by February 13, 2010. Seating will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Attendees who pay at the door will be seated on an as-available basis only. Please complete the banquet registration form, make checks payable to: “Cheezic Tang Soo Do” ASAP and mail to: Robert A. Cheezic, 19 Mohawk Drive, Wolcott, CT 06716 Sincerely yours in Tang Soo Do, The Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation Banquet Committee Please note: Semi-formal attire (men/boys: dress pants with dress shirt, tie and dress shoes; women/girls: dress, skirt or dress slacks with blouse, dress shoes), is required of all Black Belts, and Federation members (please no shorts, sweats, blue jeans, hats, or sneakers). Master Belts are also required to wear a blazer, sports jacket or suit jacket. Attention CTSD Dojang Instructors: Nominations are now being accepted for Student of the Year from each dojang. These students will be honored at the Best of Our Best Awards Banquet which will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 12 noon at the AquaTurf Club in Plantsville, CT. This year, nominations in the following three categories will be accepted: Little Ninja, Youth, Adult. Please prepare nomination letters and forward to Grandmaster Cheezic immediately. Master Joey Barbera and his wife Kate welcome their first child Max Wallace Barbera. Max was born at 4:33 pm on January 30, 2010 at 7lbs 9 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. Mom, Baby, and Dad are healthy and doing well.

Grandmaster Cheezic presided over a Gup Graduation at the Fairfield Dojang on January 27, 2010. Instructor Master Nancy Robinson was assisted at the grading by 2nd Dan Jonathan Robinson, 1st Dan Lenny Kovalik, Apprentice Black Belt Gabrielle Camarero and Apprentice Black Belt David Camarero. Congratulations to the following students who were promoted: Maks Curran, Ryan Muhlenberg, Arthur Belile, Hannah Betron, Zachary Betron, Ryan DeBernardis, Avery Gabrenas, RJ Ihlefeld, Ben Kamin, Andreas Lolis and Lauren Pistilli. The following Fairfield students also participated in the grading: Donachris Idieu, Megan Hios, Morgan Fisher, Aidan Fisher and Evan DeFonce.

The event was held at Madison Square Garden where Grandmaster Cheezic was accompanied by the following individuals: Mr. Romeo Josef, Master Roger LaFrance, Master Neil O'Neil, Master Nancy Robinson, Master Adam Gorski, Master Michael Cavallaro, Mr. Richard Robinson. |

The Bridgewater Dojang conducted a Gup graduation on January 14th. Gup students who graded in the first row are: Philip Valletta, Nicholas Valletta, Timothy Murphy, Aidan Monaghan, Jack Virbickas, and Katie Denyko. Assisting with the grading in the second row are: Apprentice black belt Sebastian Taylor, Black belt Kiera Cloutier, Apprentice black belt Logan Roy, and 2nd Dan guest instructors Tom O'Neil and Roberta O'Neil from Washington Karate. Guest student grading to Apprentice black belt from Washington Karate was Karen Kula. The grading was officiated by instructor Lorraine Dunn-Laranetto, Master Doug Wilke, and Grand Master Cheezic.

On Saturday, January 9, 2010, Masters from the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation were inducted to the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was held at the Tropicana Hotel Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
The inductees were: Master Nancy Robinson (Shelton), Master Rita Hubbard (Waterbury Boys and Girls Club) and Master Michael Cavallaro (Waterbury Boys and Girls Club). Congratulations to these Masters on their accomplishments! Grandmaster Cheezic also received Hall of Fame honors, and we congratulate him and the following prior Federation inductees who received awards as well: Master Michael Sudol, Master Todd Deutsch, Master Adam Gorski and Master Tony Melo.

Grandmaster Cheezic, Master Gorski and Mr. Robinson attended the 1st Cheezic Tang Soo Do Open World Championships, Tang Soo Do World Cup Tournament held in Pulawy, Poland on October 17-18, 2009. The tournament director was Marcin Kostyra, 3rd Dan of our Poland dojang. The two-day event was host to Tang Soo Do stylists from around the world including Poland, USA, South Africa, Greece, Germany and more. Master Gorski took 2nd place in traditional forms and first place in weapons, and Mr. Robinson took first place in breaking. Both champions represented the United States with outstanding routines. | The Connecticut Yankee Nationals tournament was held on Sunday October 4th at Holy Cross H.S. in Waterbury, CT. The following members of the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation won the Grand Champion title in their respective categories. Master Neal O'Neil also placed 2nd in Senior Black Belt Weapons and 1st in Senior Black Belt Forms. Miss Reilly placed 1st in Junior Black Belt Forms, 2nd in Junior Black Belt Weapons, and 3rd in Junior Black Belt Sparring. Congratulations to all three competitors!! |

| The CTSD travel group successfully navigated the country of China and explored such historic sites as the Terracotta Warrior dig, the Forbidden City, the Longmen Grottos, Shaolin Temple (including performances by the monks and Cheezic Tang Soo Do students) and the Great Wall, to name a few. | On Saturday, June 6th, 2009 several students from Sawyer's Martial Arts competed in the IPPONE Excel Open in Terryville, CT. Taylor Fluckinger won 1st place in the Junior Black Belt division, Dan Hinman won 3rd place in Adult Black Belt sparring, and Master Mark Sawyer won 1st place in Adult Black Belt sparring and also won Grand Champion for the Adult Male Black Belt sparring divisions.

Another significant and special day in the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation...On Friday May 8th, Grandmaster Cheezic conducted a Black Belt Graduation at the Waterbury Boys Club. Black Belt #2000 was awarded to Alec Feducia of the Naugatuck Dojang. The Federation is now over 2000 Black Belts strong; totaling 2016 after Friday night's graduation. Maggie Luddy of the Woodbury Dojang is the last blackbelt to receive a number under 2000; receiving number 1999. Sixteen students were promoted to 1st Dan Black Belt, Twelve students were promoted to 2nd Dan Black Belt and Three students were promoted to 3rd Dan Black Belt. | The Oxford Dojang conducted a Gup Graduation on March 29, 2009. With over 100 students grading, instructor Mrs. Amy Cote took on a new approach, incorporating a round robin where students were seperated into different groups, performing & grading simultaneously. |

| The American Tang Soo Do Association held their 36th annual All Tang Soo Do Championship in Woburn, MA. presented by Grandmaster Richard Byrne. Grandmaster Cheezic along with members of the Trumbull, West Haven and USA Martial Arts Dojangs participated in the event. A very special congratulations to: 3rd Dan Mrs. Jennifer Melo of the West Haven Dojang for winnning Grand Champion in Women's Forms Competition 2nd Dan Miss Kristine Reilly of the West Haven Dojang for winnning Grand Champion in Junior Weapons Competition |

The Oxford and Wallingford Dojangs met with eachother on March 14th for another massive wokout. Both schools worked out together at the Wallingford Dojang to share ideas, build spirit and meet new Tang Soo Do friends. Master Lyne Landry and Master Harry Needahm from Wallingford led the workout. Mrs. Amy Cote is the instructor of the Oxford Dojang. Last month both schools met with eachother for a workout at the Oxford Dojang. |

| Master Tony Melo & Master Joey Barbera of the West Haven Dojang attended the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio on March 7th. The Arnold Festival is an enormous tournament containing divisions in every martial arts discipline as well as other categories such as strongman competition, cheerleading, weightlifting, a fitness expo and many more. Arnold Schwarzenager is the sponsor of the event. Master Melo and Master Barbera competed in the Breaking Competition at the festival. |

AWARDS BANQUET 2009 The 2009 Federation Awards Banquet was held at the Aqua Turf Club on February 8th, 2009. Grandmaster Cheezic celebrated his 50 years in Tang Soo Do at this years banquet. Grandmaster Richard Byrnes of the American Tang Soo Do Federation, Grandmaster Don Rodrigues & Master Christine Bannon-Rodgrigues along with members of the World Tang Soo Do Federation were in attendance to honor Grandmaster Cheezic. Congratulations to all students who were awarded medals for their extraordinary performance during the 2008 tournament season!! |

| On Friday February 13th, Grandmaster Cheezic conducted a Black Belt Graduation at the Waterbury Boys Club. Seventeen students were promoted to 1st Dan Black Belt, Three students were promoted to 2nd Dan Black Belt and Two students were promoted to 3rd Dan Black Belt. Everyone performed exceptionally well (nothing less than exceptional was expected). Congratulations to all the students who graduated and to our newest Black Belts....Welcome to the Inner Circle!! |

Several Masterbelts from the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation were inducted to the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame on January 10, 2009. The induction ceremony was held at the Tropicana Hotel Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. This year's inductees from our federation included: Master Carl Savoie (Danielson), Master Donald Laperle (Danielson), Master Steve Randolph (Danielson), Master Kaitlyn Saucier (Foster), Master Joey Barbera (West Haven) and Master Steve Shakin (Cape Cod). Congratulations to these Masters on their accomplishments!! Master Cheezic also received a special award: "Organization of the Year." Congratulations to Master Cheezic and the entire Federation!!! Prior inductees from our Federation were also in attendance and received awards as well: Master Ken Saucier, Master Paul Saucier, Master Dave Deguzman, Master Neil O'Neal, Master Gary Guay, Master Daryl Laperle, Master Lyne Landry, Master Schuyler Green, Master Todd Deutsch, Master Adam Gorski and Master Tony Melo. |
The Oxford Dojang has been collecting empty bottles and cans. They are trying to raise money for a community service project that they are doing this spring. Wow! Check out all those cans!!
