Self Defense Curriculum
The Cheezic Tang Soo Do curriculum is designed to develop strong fundamentals, sound technique, and personal discipline at every level of training. Instruction is progressive, with material organized by belt rank to support consistent growth and evaluation.
Introduction
Our self-defense curriculum focuses on practical skills that help students stay safe in real-life situations. It emphasizes simple, effective techniques rooted in Tang Soo Do fundamentals while allowing for flexibility as students grow. Below, you’ll find our full approach, including the self-defense options taught at each belt level.
White Belt Curriculum
Students will learn the basic fundamentals of self-defense including prevention, positioning and basic self-defense stance. From a technical point of view, we will address a basic response to any attacker coming from outside leg range, and a number of simple grabs, using karate techniques that should be familiar to Yellow, Blue and Purple belts.
Green Belt Curriculum
Students will learn the more general principles of self-defense such as range, positioning, balance and vulnerable targets. From a technical point of view, we will address more complex grab situations from the front like choke or bear hug, plus an introduction to ground defense.
Red Belt Curriculum
Students will learn some of the most basic stand-up control techniques, and continue with additional ground defense, still focusing on disengaging. Thematically we will be focusing on attacks from the rear with heavy emphasis on karate footwork and pivoting.
